SMaRT-5G

Sustainable Mobile and RAN Transformation 5G (SMaRT-5G) is a collaborative effort to develop and enable ML-driven energy savings solutions for mobile networks.

The SMaRT-5G initiative is building a series of PoCs that demonstrate progressively advanced energy savings techniques on both Open-RAN and traditional RAN architectures. The phased series of PoCs will deliver power usage models, APIs, and open source software, with the goal of accelerating MNO adoption and industry impact.

NTIA Grant: 5G Energy Efficiency

The US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) selected Aether’s SMaRT-5G initiative for funding under the Wireless Innovation Fund. A two-million dollar grant ($2M) has been awarded to fund a collaborative effort through 2025 to research, develop, and validate accurate and effective test methods and to create metrics and models to measure the energy efficiency of 5G network components as well as the effectiveness of end-to-end Open RAN energy optimization strategies, supporting SMaRT-5G.
